Georgia's State Rehabilitation Committees

The main priority of the SRC is to build positive relationships with VR and work together towards ensuring that individuals with disabilities receive the services and support they need to become productive Georgia citizens through gainful employment and self-sufficiency.

This SRC members are committed to becoming a partners not just seat takers through their participation on the committees. In addition, the council has invited a VR staff member(s) to join each of the committees as VR Liaisons.  It is the hope of the council that this collaboration will foster more effective activity and provide necessary insight to the committees; ultimately assisting the SRC to meet their goals on behalf of the citizens of Georgia. 

Native American Committee- Facilitates and coordinates intertribal concerns of Native Americans with disabilities with the VR Program . Also participates in development of  VR’s state plan. 

Public Relations/ Human Resources Committee- Promoting VR by public awareness campaigns on the services VR and educating the public on what VR has to offer and the mission. Collaborating with public and private partners building relationships to work towards addressing the needs of unserved and underserved populations.  Educating the partners and communities about VR services and goals.   Assisting VR with analyzing programs directed at educating, training, and retaining and promoting qualified VR staff, as well as assessing employment programs for VR consumers. Also participates in the development of the state plan.

Legislative Committee- Works with state and federal legislators to secure adequate funding for VR an rehabilitation Services (RS), and keep SRC members apprised of legislative issues affecting VR and RS. Advocates and become the ambassadors for people with disabilities. Also participates in development of VR policies and plans, including the state plan.

Policy Procedure/ Monitoring and Evaluation Committee- Gathers and works with VR to analyze information concerning the effectiveness of VR in order to make recommendations to the VR leaderships. Providing assistance and feedback by working with the regional directors and staff .  Evaluates VR’s responses to needs assessments an client and employ satisfaction surveys, and makes recommendations. Also participates in the development of the state plan.

Employer and Recruitment  Committee-  Help employers meet their human resources needs. Work towards creating a network with the business community to help people with disabilities transition into employment.  Helping VR and communities to have employment days, awareness days, helping employers and employee to understand disability and work. Recruit new interest in the SRC for membership, applications, needed districts, work with community committees and groups promoting employment for individuals with disabilities.  Also participates in the development of the state plan.  

Education and Transition Committee-  Assist VR with enhancing transition services for high school students with disabilities. Also participates in the development of the state plan.

Sensory Committee- Works with VR to address issues related to the delivery of services to individuals with sensory related disabilities. VR has developed and expanded it's scope of services to individuals with sensory related disabilities and the Georgia SRC has decided to dedicate some o it's most knowledgeable members in this arena to assist VR in those endeavors.
